Democrats, look to Virginia.
It's candidates like Tim Kaine that can win back the hearts of red and purple America. He's a devout Catholic who's not afraid to talk about his faith, even if it could cost him votes--from both parties. He's anti-abortion and anti-death penalty--but people understand and respect why. What Democrats keep failing to learn is that even if people agree with you on the issues, if they don't sense within you a deep and heartfelt dedication to core and unshakable principles they'll never entrust you with the kind of loyalty that Bush inspires from his base. Especially on the presidential level, modern elections are won by appealing to gut instincts and impressions. That's probably not the best way to choose presidents, but it's how America does it.
Last night's biggest winner= Mark Warner, outgoing Virginia Governor and undeniable contender for the Democratic nomination in 2008.
