Whatever happened to fiscal conservatism?

According to this graph, it hasn't really existed in 25+ years. As the not-as religious right awaken from their slumber, there's a strom abrewin' in the Republican party. Turns out Gdub's a way bigger spender than Clinton AND Carter. With Iraq costs spiraling out of control, mounds of promises on the table for Louisiana and Mississippi, and no plans to raise taxes or cut spending elsewhere, we can expect that line to get much steaper real soon.
