This must be how many
Americans seriously think. Otherwise, I'd hope there'd be much more public outrage over the atrocities in Darfur and our President's perplexing reluctance to do anything about them. Some journalists are talking about it, and a few Senators are working on it; but, for the most part this story has been overshadowed by runaway brides and Michael Jackson in the media, and by stem cells and fillibusters in Congress. Under pressure from the White House, the Darfur Accountability Act failed to pass, and as Nicholas Kristoff has eloquently pointed out, Bush has remained largely silent since his re-election. But sleep tight, America: those cutie patutie frozen embryos won't be destroyed using your tax dollars, and God damnit, you'll hear about GDub's plans for social security 'till he runs out of supportive audiences to talk to.
Here is a very brief but useful summary of the situation in Darfur from the Human Rights Watch.
This photo diary also helps convey the suffering and destruction that continues.

Say a prayer tonight for these kids.
